Friday Fun

I know that I haven't said much about the Royal Wedding, and I know everyone else is, but really, I'm more concerned with other things. Other more realisitic things. I know, I know, sometimes it's nice to have a distraction, and there's nothing wrong with a good guilty pleasure, but I'm gonna leave that to everyone else. (Apparently 35% of the whole world is going to be watching the wedding today!!)

And so on that note, I wanted to share this video of images from Getty Images. There has been much news of the conflict in the east and in Africa this year, but honestly there has been little visual media coverage. So when I saw this video, I was really intrigued, and I hope you will be too. It has a nice little story with it about how the photographer had his equipment confiscated from him at the customs border on his entry into one of the countries he visited. If like me, you find this interesting, and are moved by photos of conlfict, I hope you will appreciate this.

Two very cool things and some photography inspiration

This week came up trumps very early on. For starters, I got a job! (I had to leave my job when I went to Canada) and secondly, I have secured a place with this lovely lady (who I went on and on about here...!) on a workshop she is holding in London in July! I am so so stoked about both of these things (but obviously the workshop ALOT more!) and cannot wait!! The work news itself is kinda interesting to those who care, and rather boring to those who really don't. But it happened, and lucky me it's good and within walking distance. So I'm a happy bunny, and very much looking to getting my first pay check! (I'm now down to 2 pounds in my purse, but luckily have a fully stocked fridge!) Either way, a good week so far!

But onto more interesting things- are you watching the Royal Wedding tomorrow? Oh wait....... I said more interesting!! Sorry :). hehe

This is what you come here for.... the inspiration and the images.  Have a look at Liu Bolin's work, and his project, the invisible man. He spends up to 10 hours (!!) per shoot, painting himself to blend into the background of a scene. He becomes practically invisible in some of them!

What do you think? Honestly, in the image with the JCB, it took me quite a while to find him! I think they are brilliant :).

Self Portrait Photo's

This weeks self portrait doesn't have much of a theme. I could invent one if you like though? This is how I see myself at work (did you hear that- work!? Yup that's right, I got a job- finally!! More on that come soon) in the mirrored bar. This is how I liked my hair this week, amongst lots of thoughts of not liking my hair. (ironic, no?) This is what I'm focusing on. The real me. My thoughts and dreams. This is what the mr considers to be his favourite part of me. I like to focus on that sometimes. I think my hair looks nice and shiny in this pic, my eyelashes look cool, and the colour of the room behind me worked well with the image overall.

Like I said, I can attach many things to this image, but in the end I chose it cause I liked it.

O.M.G am I excited!

So I'm not one to say things that make me sound like an annoying American teenager, but O.M.G am I excited right now!!!!

I am pre writing this post as I have just received an email from the fabulous Lou from Whimsical Wonderland Weddings who is going to be featuring my 'couples shoot' with Edd and Amy!

Just for those of you that don't know much about the wedding blog world, there are quite a lot of wedding blogs (particularly in the US) that feature different designers, vendors, photographers, and real life weddings to act as inspiration for brides to be and for those that are looking for something a little bit different for their day. There are not that many in the UK, but Whimsical Wonderland Weddings is one of the best (certainly in my eyes) despite it still being young (just over a year old!), and as is quite common, was started by Lou when she was looking for inspiration for her own wedding.

How do I know all this you might ask? Well..... wedding photography blogs were some of the first photography blogs that I found when I was desperately searching for inspiration 2 years ago, and slowly I have become more and more enveloped into the online wedding world. I love it. I have no hopes of getting married any time soon (I promise!) but the different d.i.y projects and amazing photographers keep me going back day after day. Following these blogs is what got me thinking that I wanted to try shooting people more often. I have seen how a select few british women have gone about setting up their own photography businesses, and how they get to work with happy, creative people every day. What more could I ask for!? So that's why I decided to give this thing a go. And that is why I asked Edd and Amy to do my first 'couples shoot' with me.

So despite it not being a more commonly blogged 'engagement shoot', I thought "What the hell!?" I'll give it a go, see if anyone likes my stuff enough to feature it on their wedding blog. And lucky for me they have! Lou emailed me back in record time and said that she would love to feature the shoot- and so, on the shoot with Edd and Amy will be featured on the gorgeous Whimsical Wonderland Weddings! I am so excited about this, as I absolutely love this site, and am constantly finding streams of inspiration on here. It doens't matter if your not getting married- check out this blog, and be inspired!

Plus it also means that lucky me gets to proudly wear this yummy badge!

Keep an eye out for it- It will go up in the next couple of weeks!

Art Inspiration

How cool are these pictures!? I know this is a kinda tried, tested and done again concept, especially in the advertising world, but I still love it!

Spring

I wanted to be all happy yesterday, and offer warm greetings for Easter. But I wasn't in the mood, and quite frankly Easter doesn't mean very much to me. So instead I am going to share some happy images of spring. It's getting really warm and summer-like here in Kernow, and our garden is now rather pretty :)

Hope you had a nice bank holiday weekend lovelies.

Monday 25 April 2011

It's Monday!

I woke up yesterday morning and wrote the post that went out a couple of hours ago. I was tired and groggy and had slept on a multitude of thought and emotions. I'm sorry to have been such a downer, but I just had to get it out there. I don't like not knowing (if you hadn't noticed!!), and sometimes I find it helps to write about the things that trouble you. I have books full of poems I've written over the years.... that no one will ever see!

Luckily though yesterday turned out to be a lovely day with a long walk in the sunshine and a few hours spent reading a good book!

But, onto happier things- I tend to prefer to share videos on Fridays, as part of Friday Fun- but I now have such a collection growing that I'm bursting to the seams to share them! This one includes a gorgeous bit of filmography and a daring feat :).

Check this out....

I don't know

I don't know, and I don't like it. It feels strange to me.

I don't know what I want, and I don't like it. It feels far too strange to me.

When I was 12 I knew that I wanted to go to University in Canada. Nearly 8 years later, I went. I did.
When I was 10 or 11, I knew that I didn't want to go to the all girls school in town. So I didn't. And I'm glad.
When I was 16, I knew that I wanted to go to college, not stay for 6th form. I knew.
When I was 17 I knew I wanted to take a year out to go travelling. It became the best decision of my life so far.
When I was 17 I knew that I wanted to take Mike with me on my year of travelling. We had only been together 3 or 4 months, but I knew it would work.
When I was 18, I knew which apartment we would pick in Canada. Nearly 10 apartments later, I was right.
When I was 19 I knew that the decision I had made when I was 12 was no longer what I wanted, and no longer right. Months later I am still overjoyed by that decision. It has made me happier than I could have ever dreamed it would.

I know what I want. My instincts work. My gut is good. I know what I want and I go after it. It works.

BUT

Now that I am 20, what I wanted when I was 12 no longer applies. It didn't work.

Now that I am 20, I don't know what I want. I can't decide. I go back and forth and back and forth for weeks, months now.

I don't know what I want, and I don't like it. It's strange.

It's far too strange.......

Edd and Amy: My first couples shoot

I don't normally post at the weekends, but I had promised to share these before the end of the week, and I wanted to make sure they had a full day dedicated to them! :) I really hope you all love them as much as I do! For information on the shoot and for the sneak peak of the images,  click here

Hopefully by now you will now about the shoot I did last week with Edd and Amy. I previewed a few of their images earlier on in the week, and talked a bit about how nervous we all were about the shoot!

Here are a large selection of the 500 images I shot. Yes, 500! 500 is rather a lot but this was for a few reasons. This was no ordinary couples shoot for starters, this was also a pre planned portfolio shoot. I needed them to act as my models and obtain certain images that I could then use for myself, as well as producing images of them as a couple for their personal use. This combined with the 4 locations we shot in, resulted in a lot of images! Needless to say Edd and Amy were naturals, and fulfilled my request perfectly. Well done you guys, you grasped what I wanted from you, and from about 15 minutes in I essentially stopped giving direction.

Just to give you a heads up, the internet saps quite a bit of colour out of these images, so in reality they are much bolder and brighter!(and better!)

P.S The first two were taken on 35mm film! :)

Check out those pins!!

I hope you love the images as much as I do, and Happy Anniversary for last week!

If you, or anyone you know would like a similar shoot done, or a shoot of any kind in fact, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
