Home bound

Ola! I'm home! And I'm back :) Yes I know, I missed a lot, and we have lots to catch up on (don't get me started) but this week I have lots to share! Starting with a little insight into both my brain, and my holiday.

For the trip to Lisbon I had wanted to pack as lightly as possible- small suitcase, easier day. Simples. And so in order to allow more space and weight in my suitcase for important items like dresses and bikinis, I asked the mr's mum to let me borrow her kindle. And I have to say that I will be begging to use it as much as possible!

Always a doubter of the amazon kindle, I am now a converted fan! Beforehand I had always thought that as an avid book reader, that the feel of the kindle would be strange to me, and that I would hate not being able to feel the book and turn the pages. But on the contrary, I found its size and weight refreshing, and the page turning buttons practical; creating ease for whatever else I was trying to do at the time- like change the song on my ipod or readjust my bikini straps!

Plus the books are sooo much cheaper than real books! under a fiver always, but more often than not they are only a couple of quid! I save so much space, money and weight when travelling!

Although I do have to say that for me that is as far as the love goes. To using them when travelling. (Something that I do a lot of) but at home, I want books; on lovely old wooden bookshelves. Taunting me to read them and love them. :)

What do you think? have you been converted like me!?

Foundation Course

So I realised that I rambled a lot on here about my useless decision making when it comes to life choices, such as do I do the foundation course!? And that in the end I said yes! Well, then I realised that I haven't said much since.

Well, the course is two weeks in, and so far so good. Admittedly my time so far on the course hasn't really counted though. The first week we spent in intro's, long drawing classes and beach drawing classes. Then I left for Lisbon....

But I jumped straight off my train from Bristol (post Lisbon return) and straight into the studio yesterday afternoon. And lucky me, the course leader decided to switch me around so that I was in the fabric and form group! Something I easily felt at home with, and it was comforting to have the fabric and the sewing machine back in my hands. I flailed hugely in getting my head around what needs to be done to catch up, but then spent an extra hour after class with some fabric and a mannequin and re-discovered my love for all things hands on and creatively fashion based. It was great. :)

So this term has had a rushed and absent beginning, in which I am still finding my feet as I get used to a new space in which I feel so uncertain even though lately in the 'real world' I feel totally confident and competent. It's strange, but for now there is too much to do to think about it. We have moved into our new, larger, room in the house and still haven't unpacked, plus I have 3 projects to do this week! (Eeeeek!) Ah well. See you on the other side :)

Away with the Fairies

This week I am in Lisbon! So this week, much like many weeks recently, will be a quiet one here. Life is taking over the blog, rather than the other way around sadly at the moment. However to keep you occupied and to keep the glimpses into my life coming here are some photos from the beach the other day. Can you tell how much I love instagram at the moment!?

Also on the plus side, one of my photos from the workshop with Holly Young has been used as part of an advert in Glamour magazine!! So exciting to open the pages of a national magazine and see one of my images, even if it is tiny :). AND- there will be a full feature of the workshops that Holly runs in Cornish Brides coming out soon, plus a full feature on Anna D'Souza in Cornwall Today, using my images soon! So LOTS of goodness going on here in the background :).

Enjoy your week while I enjoy my sunshine and rest :).

Photography Inspiration

Of course, with many thanks to the wonderful Joanna who always seems to come up trumps!

Self Portrait Photo's

My small range of self portrait photos were basic. They were squeezed into my life and to be honest lacked inspiration. But they were also a project in building my confidence in front of the camera, rather than behind. Which it did. I learnt a fair amount about how to photograph myself and how hard it is. And I had some fun with it! However Natsumi Hayashi's self portraits, documented through her daily blog yowayowa camera, take it to the next level! Every single day Natsumi photographs herself levitating- with no trickery of any kind. No photoshop- nothing! Check her out, she's pretty awesome :)

We're part of history....

"We're part of history.

Yeh we are."

Yesterday was a day. Just like any day. Completely normal for me. I worked a double shift, as I do most Sunday's, and I thought about today. I planned what I was going to wear today for my day first day of University in England. I thought about my lunch, and the people I would eat it with. I thought about the night before when I had gone out.

I came home and went through my blogger feed; I read mostly the normal entries from other people on art, design and fashion. Trivial things really. Trivial in comparison to the other posts I read. About yesterday.

Yesterday was a day, just like any day. But it marked a huge moment in history; something that we are all part of. Just as Juliet from Juliet McKee Photography said;"It was our generations JFK moment"; The moment where everything changes, and nothing will be the same again. The moment when we remember exactly where we were and what we were doing.

10 years ago yesterday 9/11 happened, and the lives of millions changed. It is now part of our history, or as the kids from the kindergarten in the first tower said, we are now part of history.

This small article from the New York Times, with the kids from P.S 150 kindergarten really touched me. We all remember where we were and what we were doing on that day, but then our lives continued. Quite normally. But for the people involved in that day, everything changed, and they became a part of history.
