Living in Luxury

If there is any kind of holiday I have ever wanted to take, it is to a luxury resort, on an island, to stay in a floating hut over the sea. With the glass floors and sunken relaxing areas just like this one. And oh look, the Hilton offers a similar hut in Bora Bora! And lucky for us there seem to be quite a few in Bora Bora, according to this list.

Found here

Plus of course, if you're going to be living in luxury, you might as well fly in luxury, and I've made it one of my top 10 do before I die things, to fly first class, long-haul on one of these flights :

Air Canada

Singapore Airlines

Now admittedly that may only be to Canada, but the idea of having a bed and being able to stretch out on that long 10 hour flight honestly seems like heaven to me! All I ever want to do after the 24 hour journey (door to door) is not be squished up!! Ahhh what it would be like to be rich....!!

A simple holiday break

As much as I yearn for a good sunny holiday, I also love a good winter break that involves a fireplace, hot chocolate, wine and good magazines or books. When me and mum visited Tofino on Vancouver Island last March we stayed in a gorgeous little lodge that is reasonably priced and right on the beach. You can have the choice of a smaller, cheaper room (which we did and found to be fine as you don't spend much time in the room) and we got a return visitors rate!

The breakfast is massive, and we took food from it to have for snacks later on during the day, plus in the evenings they put on hot chocolate and cookies for you to enjoy :).

We would sit every evening (we only went for a couple of days) on what I think could be the comfiest sofas in the world, reading by the fire. I think I would do the flight back to Canada (again) just to sit in that lounge once more. It was heaven.

The perfect weekend getaway that I dream of being able to do, perhaps in Devon or Somerset, once I actually, you know, have a disposable income!

Unique is the word

Unique is most definitely the word for this place. I have never ever seen anything like this before in my life. And quite frankly there are no words for it. It is just amazing!! Sadly however it is not real. Shame eh!? Yup, it was created by the producers of James Bond to be part of a film and is actually a very normal rock/island in Thailand. How boring.

Still, I like the idea that there could be somewhere as amazing as this somewhere in the world! You can only hope :)

Living out of a suitcase

I'm away! Again! My amazing friend Sophie commented that I practically live out of a suitcase :) I kinda like that about my life :).

I'm in Berlin all of this week, and most likely won't be reaching a computer until Saturday afternoon when I resurface from my slumber. So, instead, to keep those of you interested occupied, I have a week of interesting travel places lined up! Each day I will be sharing a unique and interesting place to visit, some places I have been, others I haven't but would love to one day! Hopefully you will enjoy it and it will inspired the travel bug in you :)

First up, is this amazing hotel in Finland, designed to give you a snuggly view of the Aurora lights. I have always wanted to watch the lights, and am slightly fascinated by their beautiful colours.

There are loads of different hut options, but I would want to go full out for the greenhouse style igloo that gives you a perfect view of the sky as you lie in bed, although I have to admit that those bed sheets might give me a bit of a headache!!

Apparently, as well as a restaurant and sauna, the hotel also has an ice bar and chapel! So if you wanted, you could get married there! (I always secretly image that the mr would want a wedding in the snow!) I think it would make for the perfect wedding night to lie there watching the Aurora lights, although I only just learnt that they only last for a couple of minutes! I had no idea!

Have you ever been to an ice hotel like this? I'd honestly love to add it to my bucket list, although I haven't been brave enough to look at the price list yet!

I did however brave it to the FAQ section of their website, to discover that they recommend doing a short amount of exercise and then eating chocolate before going to bed to ensure staying warm at night. Perfect!

I'm in Canada!!!

Hello from Victoria, B.C!! Yup, that's right! Saturday morning we woke up super duper early, and headed off to Newquay airport. 3 flights and a coach ride later we are with my mum! This week I will have lots of photos to share of what we get up to, and hopefully some interesting posts with a Christmas and/or Canada theme!

Berlin Trip 2012

As part of the course we are spending 5 days in Berlin :). From the small amount of research I have done so far I am excited! Here's what I'm most excited for :

This fabric shop

This art gallery that is in an underground bunker left from an air shelter in the war

The Third Reich Buildings that have been made into an architectural beauty

Seeing the school of the Bauhaus. Which by the way allowed me to do the education I am doing now

Maybe visiting this concentration camp if I have both the time and the strength

The button shop, that has the same name as this (my favourite) button shop in Vancouver

Sadly going to be missing these flea markets

And also (not so sadly) will be missing the worlds first and only erotic museum (How strange). Thank you Germany.

Have you ever been? I honestly never thought I would want to go to Germany. Even with my strong interest in the world wars. I thought about going to France. Never Germany. I have no idea why. I don't think it's because of any poor stereotype or bad misjudgement from the war. I just never thought of it. And yet now I'm going, I'm pleased. I'm excited to see what Germany has to offer. Architectural delights; a whole Island full of galleries and museums and lots and lots and lots and lots of leftover war memorials.

Lisbon

Wow last week flew by! So much so that I completely forgot to post holiday photos and add updates on all the activity around here! Week 4 of the course has started and is going well, and over the weekend all of our lovely friends and house-mates moved out :(. It makes us very sad. Mainly because we lost a giant 50" t.v but also because we have lost some very kind, generous and fun friends who we got to live with for 7 months!

Anyway, on to the happy photos! Enjoy, and if you ever get the chance to go to Portugal- make sure you go to Lisbon! It's fantastic and I can honestly say that I could happily live there! Drinking hot espressos in the sun for the rest of my life would be incredible :) oh and the biscuits..... YUM.
